Singapore

Sunday 11th March 2018

Arrived at our hotel at 9.45 a.m. our room was not available but booked in and left our suitcases in storage.    We had come from the Princess Cruise Majestic with Michelle and John from Dargaville who were also stopping at this hotel.    We then caught a hop on and hop off Bus and did the yellow line getting an idea where things were to see.

Bill John and Michelle from Dargaville

After doing this for some time and it was very hot we got off and walked into a shopping mall for something to eat and a nice cold drink, crowds and crowds of people in the shopping mall.   We the continued for a walk along a lovely River Walk Way taking in the sights of Singapore.

When we got back to the hotel we made arrangements to go to the Zoo at night including a meal.
We went up to our room and unpacked and had a cup of tea and shower before going down to the lounge waiting to get picked up for the Zoo Trip.   We were picked up by a small bus and taken to China Town where we changed Buses to a large bus.    Our Bus was full.

Restaurant at the Zoo and my meal

There were crowds and crowds of people at the Zoo some already having their meal, others queuing up to get a ride.   By booking on this trip we got preference to a ride on the Tram and did not have to wait as queues were very long with adults and young children.

Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed and had trouble taking photos without flash and noise because it frightens the animals, sometimes you could see the animals quite clear and other times not good but it was a experience of going through the Zoo at night.    There are many trips you can do at the Zoo all day ones including night and also feeding the animals.

We went and watched the small creatures show after our trip through the Zoo, this was packed and enjoyable also, but still not having the best with night photos.

We did'nt get back to our hotel till about 10.30 ;p.m. big day for our first visit to Singapore.    We have an trip arranged from New Zealand for this afternoon cruise up the Singapore River and afternoon at The Fullerton Hotel.

Monday 12 March 2018

Up quite early in the morning and went out walking to the shopping complexes but unfortunately none of the shops open until 10 a.m.

In Singapore this year it is the Dog

We had planned in the afternoon a cruise down the Singapore River and afternoon at The Fullerton Hotel.    We were picked up from our Hotel and taken to China Town to get on another bus to commence our cruise.   On the way to commence our cruise it started to rain so we had to buy ponchi and put on after we got off the bus to commence our cruise.    As you will see the weather is not the best to start with but as we progressed on our cruise it did improve.

When I took this photo I did not realize that we would be up here the next day taking photos from the  very top Marina Bay Sands Hotel

Tuesday 13 March 2018

Up quite early as we are going to the Gardens by the Bay.    We went around other hotels and picked up people who also were going to the Gardens by the Bay.    We had seen last night where Gardens by the Bay was when it lit with lights on the Singapore at night tour down the Singapore river.

We thoroughly enjoyed the gardens particular the part under the domes.

Flower Dome

The Flower Dome is a cool-dry conservatory located in the Gardens by the Bay.  Visitors can view the plants from Mediterranean and semi-arid Subtropical region. and simulated spring climate, where unique plants bloom in an ever-changing display of flowers.

As we were approaching the first garden

We then continued on with the second part of this garden the enclosed The Cloud Forest Dome.    The mist operates from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the morning and we arrived 10.30.     This was a beautiful garden

Cloud Forest

The Cloud Forest is a 'cool-moist' conservatory located within Gardens by the Bay.   It features a 35 - metre tall mountain covered in lush vegetation and the world's tallest indoor waterfall showcases. where visitors can view rare and hidden floral gems found only in tropical highlands up to 2,000 - metres above sea level.

After this we went and got a ticket for a ride to the Hotel called Marina Sands.     This was beautiful hotel we then brought a ticket to go to the very top for a view and this was prefect again beautiful clear skys.

Photos of the Foyer of the Hotel

After we had looked around the foyer of this hotel we got tickets to go to the very top for a view of Singapore, $20.00 each.     The view was excellent and we could see the Gardens by the Bay where we had just been and the Flower Dome and Cloud Dome.     The Singapore River where we had had cruise up on an afternoon and stopping at The Fullerton Hotel for High Tea.    The Fullerton Hotel used to be the Post Office for Singapore.     I will now show photos from the top and you will see the Flower Dome and Cloud Dome in the bottom of the first photo.      When we set off today for this sightseeing trip which we booked at House Travel with Belinda before we left New Zealand we did not think we would be going to this beautiful Hotel.      Looking at my photos I have taken from the top all are excellent hard choice to decide what to put in this blog.    As you can quess I took many photos again on this trip.

The Flower Domes are White and the stands brown with white centres light up at night all different colours

Wednesday 14 March 2018

We got up at a reasonable time as we had to be out of our room by 12.00 p.m. storing our bags in the room behind the office.     Had our breakfast cereal in our room and a cup of tea, and then proceeded to pack our one remaining suitcase.   I had previously packed one when we left the cruise that we would not be opening and had done the washing and had plenty of clean clothes as it gets hot in Singapore particularly if you are outside need to change often.     None of the shops are opened in Singapore until after 10 a.m.   I had packed one of our carry on bags for a change of clothing if needed before we went to the airport.    There was a shower room it needed.     We then went for a long walk to the Bugis shopping complex.    We had met 2 ladies previously on one of our trips and they told us about this complex.  Off we went bag and water bottles.     We had a good look around the 2 shopping complexes across the road from each other.    We sat down and had a nice ice cream and got talking to a boy doing school work at a desk.    I commented  that I had noticed a lot of boys and girls not at school and he informed me that they were on study leave at the moment.    When male students leave school they have to do 2 years compulsory training and he had just finished his.    His father worked away in China and comes home occasionally and he had 2 sisters his mother and aunt all lived in one of the many high rise apartments.   He had a part time job at Singapore Changi Airport.   And told us about the many shops at the airport.

On the way back to the airport we decided to look for the National Singapore Museum.

This was not far from our hotel.     We decided to go in and look around and spent the next 3 hours there.    We met a couple that we had had tea with on the boat there with her Nieces and husband.    Talked them for a while and commenced our walk through the Museum.     By the time we had finished my legs and back were starting to ache.     What with up the many escalators and stairs.    It was $20.00 each to go through all of the Museum.     We did look to see if we could have lunch here but then I decided to head back to hotel and get a cup of tea there and water and have a sandwich.    Sent Bill out to the shop handy to our hotel to look for a Sandwich.    I went and changed my clothes and proceeded to put the stockings on for the plane.     Bill went to the counter to see if they could ring the driver for our transport to the Airport if he was available and we would go early.   He came at 3. 45 p.m.

Nice quick trip to airport, lovely gardens on the road to the Airport.
