This morning, head through high country, where open-range cattle kings made war on the homesteaders in the 1890s. Drive past Sheridan in the Bighorn Mountains, site of battles between the U.S. Cavalry and the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Crow Indians. Overnight in Buffalo Bill’s frontier town of Cody. We left this morning [Saturday, 30 August] at 8 a.m. Drove through to Gillette, open range country, then went passed an open cast Coal Mine which trains carry over 100 wagons. Went through to Sheridan and drove over the Bighorn Mountains which were very high and impressive views. Stopped and took photos from the top.
