Jackson to Salt Lake City

Red Lion Hotel Salt Lake City
Today, leave Jackson and drive to Salt Lake City, Utah’s vibrant capital. Set on the edge of Great Salt Lake Desert, this centre of the Mormon religion is where Brigham Young declared to his followers, "This is the place." An included sightseeing tour features a glimpse of Temple Square, the Capitol Building, and beautiful downtown Salt Lake City. (CB)

Today [Thursday, 4 September] very frosty morning not a cloud in the sky, we departed at 8 a.m. followed Snake River for a long way which got bigger as we proceeded.

Snake River taken from the Bus as we travelled

Main Street
Stopped at Alpine for morning tea at a Chocolate Factory, Jewellery and Ice Cream Shop, very old building.   A feature in the town was a huge banner of Elk Antlers.

Margaret and Bill

Close Up of the Archway
Proceeded in the Star Valley, very fertile valley which was settled by Mormon Farmers in the turn of the century.    Lots of Hay Making and irrigation, and we did not see much stock.

Crossed the border into Utah at Bear's Lake.

Very pretty 20 miles long and 8 miles across and half in Utah and half in Idaho.

Hay been cut waiting to be harvested

Pine Trees

State of Utah

State Capital of Utah
Moved onto Logan for lunch, and then into Salt Lake City.      Drove around town passed the Mormon Temple and up to the Utah Stadium where the 2002 Winter Olymphics opening ceremony was held.

Went to our hotel very nice but waited a long time for our suitcases so had to rush to get ready to go out for tea.

This was at the Mormon Temple.   Most of the buildings were made out of Granite in the early 1900
brilliant gardens and water features.

Inside the Temple
Two young female missionaries one from Switzerland and the other from Russia, showed us around the Temple and other buildings.     We then proceeded to a Buffet Tea, 3 course meal.    No tea or coffee was served as it is against their religion.    We were also informed that under all their buildings is a Car Parking Buildings.     There gardens were outstanding.

Girls
Then proceeded to the huge Theatre where the Tabernacle Choir rehearsal was in progress.     Listened to them for an hour and half.      A large number of visitors were there listening as well.   The practice every Thursday night.   I enjoyed it very much.    I video some parts.

Choir and Orchestra
Then back to the hotel lovely day and night.
