Train

Caught a Bus at 9 a.m. on [Tuesday, 16 September] to George Town near the NZ Embassy. Caught a taxi to the Embassy to vote.

This is the bus we caught to go to vote

Our Voting papers filled in

Margaret outside NZ Embassy
The Staff at the Embassy told us of a track through some Bush which resulted in a 10 minute walk back to where the bus dropped us off, saving us another taxi fare.

Trees and Gardens
Returned to hotel for a cup of tea and brought a 2 Day Hop On Hop off Bus Ticket. Proceeded on the red circuit around all of the Monuments and finished at the White House.

State Building
We walked right around the White House and then the Blue bus to Arlington Cemetry and the Pentagon and shopping centres.

Cemetry

Macey's Shopping Centre
Crossed the Potomac River and returned to the White House.
There are no sky scrappers as there is a law that no buildings is to succeed the height of a Monument.

Potomac River
A lot of the streets have trees grown in the footpaths and there is hanging baskets and most of the Civic Buildings are in a beige yellow colour (a little boring).

Houses

Shopping Centre
Georgetown is the old part of Washington, very old and interesting. Nice period homes. Not unlike San Franciso. There is apparently a house here only 9 feet wide, but we did'nt see it. We missed it on the bus trip, but may see it tomorrow.

We were around 7 blocks away from our hotel but were told to take the yellow route (a big mistake) our hotel was the last stop on this circuit. On return we got into a very big traffic Jam. Which turned a 1 half hour trip into 3 hours.
